74-year-old Mangayamma from Guntur gave birth to twins at Ahalya Nursing Home in Guntur through IVF. Mangayamma and Raja Rao were married for 57 years, but could not have children till now.
Hyderabad: A 74-year-old Andhra Pradesh woman set world record by giving birth to twins at Ahalya Nursing Home in Guntur.
The woman is Mangayamma, wife of Yerramatti Raja Rao from Nelapartipadu in East Godavari district The couple had got married on March 22, 1962. They were married for 57 years but were not blessed with a child.
The couple saw a ray of hope when their 55-year-old neighbour conceived through IVF. Mangayamma along with husband met the doctor that treated their neighbour at Ahalya Nursing Home.
After some tests, the hospital collected sperm of Raja Rao and fertilised it successfully.
Mangayamma was under observation in the hospital during her pregnancy. As normal delivery was not a safe option at this age, doctor performed C-section surgery. Mangayamma delivered two healthy babies at 10.30 am on Thursday.
As reported by News 18, father of the twins Raja Rao said that they were in hospital in nine months and are very happy with the birth of twins. We have forgotten all our struggles, he is said to have told.
Mangayamma broke the record set by Daljit Kaur, who gave birth to a child when she was 70-years-old.
