 In a swift and well-planned operation executed by the Indian Army Intelligence Agencies at Meghalaya-Assam-Bangladesh Border, dreaded hardcore ULFA-I leader SS Col Drishti Rajkhowa and four accomplices surrendered along with a huge quantity of arms
 

Assam chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to condemn the blast and directed “DGP to immediately apprehend the culprits and ensure the security of common people.”

In its complaint to the information and technology minister, LRO said, “Since the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 started creating waves in North East India, many media houses based in Assam started exploiting situation for their own benefit. Defunct militant group ULFA has launched fresh recruitment drive in Assam by using media created unrest.”

Over the past decades, not only NSCN-K but also insurgent groups from other states of India’s Northeast had taken shelter in Myanmar — in violation of  the ceasefire agreement of a few rebels with the Burmese government that the dispensation had entered after providing them shelter

According to reports, the gunfight took place along the Assam-Nagaland border, as the security forces raided the militants' hideout.

Since September 1 at least 11 people from Tinsukia and Udalguri districts have joined the banned outfit

'Assam will burn if they continue to push the bill. If the bill is passed in Parliament, the situation will worsen and the recruitment for ULFA-I, the anti-talk faction, will increase,' Anup Chetia said

The Trinamool Congress, which has been vocal about the incident, kept the pot boiling with a delegation from Bengal reaching the Dibrugarh airport on Sunday morning to visit Tinsukia and interact with the affected families

The incident took place at the Kherabari area, near Dhola-Sadiya bridge under Sadiya assembly constituency of Upper Assam

Six men were abducted and shot at by suspected militants at Kheroni in Tinsukia district. Four of them died on the spot, one at a hospital and the sixth is injured.
