Thousands of devotees have vowed not to donate a penny to this and other temples until all temples in the country are freed from government control. For, they do not want their money to fill the state coffers as they hold that the state is unduly interfering in their religious beliefs.

The deity at Sabarimala is a Brahmachari (celibate) and therefore women of a certain age aren't allowed. There are many temples in India which are exclusively for women and men aren't allowed. No man tries to enter.

The idea behind this call of boycott was depriving the state of the revenue, as the devotees believed the money was helping an atheistic government, which controls temples, rather than furthering the Hindu cause. Their strategy seems to be succeeding.
