Bill Gates recently visited the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. He was mesmerised by the statue and called it an "incredible engineering feat". He also visited a garden nearby and had a traditional Gujarati meal at a cafeteria run by tribal women.

While Congress MLA DK Shivakumar handed over 10 acres of land for the construction of Jesus Christ’s statue in Kanakapura of Ramanagara district, Karnataka and even laid the foundation stone for it, the pertinent question is: Was this statue needed in the first place? 

The Statue of Unity in Gujarat has seen a footfall of over 15,000 on an average (on a daily basis) surpassing that of Statue of Liberty in the United States (10,000 a day)
