The faction responsible for the Easter day terror attack is regarded as a local branch of the Islamic State, the terrorist group as known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS. On Tuesday, the ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks. 

On April 11, a confidential memo from the Police Commissioner of Colombo was circulated which not only named the group believed to be planning the attack, but also listed the individual members, along with their addresses and phone numbers.

Easter Sunday saw as many as eight blasts across Sri Lanka that took the lives of at least 321 people and injured 500 odd people. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks. A series of bomb blasts on Easter Sunday rocked Sri Lanka by killing 310 people leaving more than 500 people injured, reveals a report from the police spokesperson. According to sources, intelligence input suggested that those behind the deadly attack might attempt to escape from Sri Lanka and try to enter India via sea route. Preventing any attempts by terrorists to escape in India, ships and maritime surveillance aircraft Dornier have been deployed on the maritime border with Sri Lanka.
