Nine suicide bombers, believed to be the members of a local Islamist extremist group National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ), carried out a series of devastating blasts that tore through three churches and three luxury hotels.

Defence minister of Sri Lanka, Ruwan Wijewardene addressed the media about the progress made in identifying the extremists that wreaked havoc in the island country. The death toll has touched 359 of which 39 are foreigners.

 

The Easter Sunday blasts across Sri Lanka have taken the lives of at least 359 people and injured over 500 others. The Special Task Force carried out a controlled explosion near Savoy Cinema in Colombo after a vehicle that was found abandoned came under their suspicion.

Purushotham and Nagaraj Reddy were on a tour of Sri Lanka. Purushotham suffered major injuries in the April 21 blasts, while Nagaraj Reddy died on the spot.

Easter Sunday saw as many as eight blasts across Sri Lanka that took the lives of at least 321 people and injured 500 odd people. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks. The Sri Lankan government also exploring the angle that the attack could be in retaliation for the attack on Muslims offering Friday prayers at a mosque in New Zealand's Christchurch.

Following the serial blasts in Colombo that killed at least 290, the Sri Lankan police on Monday found 87 bomb detonators in Colombo's main bus stand. The names of seven JD(S) workers who travelled to Colombo are Puttaraju and Maregowda (missing), and M Rangappa, KG Hanumantharayappa, Ramesh, Laxmi Narayan and Shivakumar, who are confirmed dead.

Sri Lanka saw eight blasts on Easter Sunday that killed as many as 290 people. Police defused a ninth bomb and arrested 13 people. Curfew that had been imposed indefinitely has been lifted.
 

The series of blasts in Sri Lanka has left one Indian dead, among the 185. The victim has been identified as Razeena from Kerala. The Sri Lankan police have arrested seven people in connection with the blasts and stated that it looks like suicide bombing. The efforts to bring back the mortal remains of the Kerala woman are underway.

A seventh blast has been reported from Sri Lanka and the death toll now stands at 185. About 400 people have been injured in the attack. 200 troops have been deployed to carry out rescue operation.
