India captain Virat Kohli defended his premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who failed to make much of an impact on a pitch which helped spinners in the fourth Test against England. Kohli also said England deserved to win the match. The hosts won by 60 runs after India failed to chase 245 in Southampton.

Ali briefly gave England the initiative for the first time in the Test by taking four wickets in an inspired spell either side of the tea interval, including two in two balls to remove Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami. That plunged India from 181-4 to 195-8

"He (Kuldeep) is performing, so he should be picked and the England side is struggling (against) him. (Ravichandran) Ashwin and Yadav should play. I don't think Jadeja will make the cut," Azharuddin said.  

The X-factors, which Kohli spoke of, were his wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. While the former has not been a big hit so far, Kuldeep has bamboozled the English batsmen
