Reports from the survey by FICCI and IBA indicate that the public sector banks are overseeing NPAs better than their rivals, private sector banks. In the last six months, all the public sector banks noted a drop in the NPAs, whereas only 67% of private banks cited a decline, while 10% reported a surge.

Finance minister announced major merger of public sector banks (PSB). Since 2017, the number of public sector banks has come down from 27 to 12. Here is the list of PSBs merged since 2017.
