Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged farmers of India to produce oilseeds as there is a high demand in India. The Union minister also requested National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Chairman Dr Harsh Kumar Bhanwala to visit Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that the farmers get the correct price of their products in the next season.

The Indian rupee appreciated by 9 paise to 70.81 against the US dollar in early trade. However, rising crude oil prices capped the gains for the domestic unit.
