In Mumbai’s neighbouring Palghar district a 16-year-old boy was washed away by floods. Heavy rains led to water levels rising over tracks in some sections, resulting in the suspension of train services between Vasai and Virar towns, a Western Railway official said.

The water level on the tracks rose due to high tide in the Arabian sea coupled with rains in the afternoon, which caused water to flow backwards towards the Kurla, Sion and Chunabhati section, said Central Railway chief spokesperson Sunil Udasi.

A part of a bridge on the Ulhas river in Rayta village was washed away and stretches of the road were damaged due to the heavy rains, in the process affecting traffic on the highway linking Mumbai to Ahmedabad in neighbouring Gujarat.

A team of vacationers stuck at a resort in Mumbai after water level rose to seven feet, requested help on social media. This prompted the Air Force, Army, and police teams to come to their rescue

The Meteorological Department has warned Mumbai of heavy to very heavy rains over the next 24 hours.

As per the warning, Mumbai is receiving heavy rains and roads have already been waterlogged. The city will continue to receive rains till tomorrow (July 24), says weather report.

As rain continues to pour down heavily across Maharashtra, low-lying areas in the state are reportedly flooded. The incessant rains have caused flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to be temporarily suspended.
