The air-launched BrahMos missile is a 2.5-ton supersonic air to surface cruise missile with ranges close to 300 km, designed and developed by BAPL 

According to the Navy official, the firing was undertaken on the Western Seaboard by Indian Naval Ships Kochi and Chennai wherein the missiles of both ships were controlled by one ship to intercept different aerial targets at extended ranges

According to a senior official, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is working to equip Sukhoi aircraft to carry and launch BrahMos missiles. Once successful, Su-30 MKIs could easily carry out the long-range strike.

According to senior officials, the financial powers have been increased for all the three services. They can now buy weapon systems worth Rs 300 crore under each proposal.

 

 

This is India's first indigenously designed and developed long-range cruise missile. The missile was developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) a lab under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). 
 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam would have been happy about the recent success of Mission Shakti, the A-SAT missile test guided by "Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas."

Under Project 75-India, the Indian Navy has initiated the tender process by floating an initial expression of interest in which they have also invited foreign vendors to participate.  

ISRO's PSLV-C45's launch came six days after India test-fired an anti-satellite (ASAT) missile in the Mission Shakti operation.

In a statement, Russia said, "We noted the test of anti-satellite weapons conducted by India on March 27, as a result of which an Indian spacecraft - a target - in a low earth orbit was hit by an interceptor ballistic missile."

The retrieved substance from the sea had a logo of Brahmos with the date October 24, 2016, inscribed on it. This date is suspected to be the date of manufacture.

Congress party's star campaigner has attributed the successful test to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru while saying that Nehru might not have taken the decision to display this capability, but laid the foundations of the organisation.

 

Calling it Mission Shakti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has entered an elite club of space powers by destroying a low earth orbit satellite using a missile. There are only four countries in the world that have achieved this feat. This includes America, Russia and China while India stands at the fourth place.
