Railway minister Piyush Goyal has lamented the uncooperative attitude exhibited by several states like West Bengal in not asking for more trains to get back their migrant labourers. It is also heartening to note that Indian railways has ferried more than 11.5 lakh migrant workers in the last fortnight.
 

After Piyush Goyal, now Amit Malviya, the BJP IT cell chief has hit out at Congress-ruled states for not being cooperative enough to make full use of Shramik trains 
 

In an exercise and endeavour that can be termed “massive” the Indian Railways has successfully ferried as many as 11.5 lakh stranded migrants in over 999 Shramik trains.

While Congress president Sonia Gandhi offered to pay for migrants’ train fare, railways has made it clear that it has employed an 85-15% formula which makes train travel free for all migrants. Has the Congress put itself in a spot of bother as it offers to pay for migrants despite railways saying that the Centre and states would bear the costs on May 2 itself? 

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday allowed the use of special trains for movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other people stranded at different places across the country amid lockdown due to COVID-19.

1718 new cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 33050. The recovery rate is now 25.19%.
The Union home ministry has made it clear that as of now, only buses will be allowed to bring back students and migrants. It added it is not considering trains presently.
