Several leaders cutting across party lines cast their vote and urged other citizens to exercise their franchise.

The voter turnout in Maharashtra and Haryana was at 6.78% and 11.68% respectively. The numbers were a somber 8.92% and 5.77% in Haryana and Maharashtra respectively until 10am.

As voting began for 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra on Monday amidst heightened security, Bollywood celebrities including Ravi Kishan, Padmini Kolhapure and Subha Khote were among the early voters in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought the participation of as many Indians to vote in Maharashtra and Haryana. Polling for 90 seats of Haryana and 288 constituencies of Maharashtra began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm in the evening. PM Modi took to Twitter to urge voters to cast their votes. 

Maharashtra and Haryana are going to polls. Polling will take place in 288 constituencies in Maharashtra while 90 constituencies in Haryana will go to polls. The results will be announced three days later, on October 24.
