By-poll is being conducted in Chincholi and Kundagol constituencies of Karnataka. People, including a pregnant woman, stood in long queues in Chincholi to cast their votes. BJP’s candidate from Kundagol visited Doddoppa temple before casting his vote.

Leading to more speculations if Siddaramaiah is really upset with the JDS in Karnataka, he fumbled and forgot while taking the name of chief minister Kumaraswamy’s political secretary Kona Reddy while addressing a gathering in Kundagol

Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Umashri stooped low in their endeavour to criticise BJP leaders. While one wondered if BJP leaders would wear sarees, the other termed BS Yeddyurappa ‘three-day sultan’.

Apart from a control unit, ballot unit and VVPAT for each polling station, the Election Commission has also arranged for 43 additional control units, 44 ballot units and 157 VVPATs, to prevent any disruption during election.

Barbs fly thick and fast as the bypoll in Chincholi and Kundagol draw closer in Karnataka. While Congressmen challenge BJP leaders to come out in the open and have a debate on developmental issues under Modi’s regime, BJP hit back saying Modi is an extremely capable leader, under whom India has grown leaps and bounds.

Karnataka chief minister Kumaraswamy and former chief minister Siddaramaiah were put up in the same hotel in Kundagol but missed out on meeting each other in person. While the political secretary of the chief minister says the chief minister didn’t have information, the BJP says it is a clash of egos

 

Bypolls will be held in two constituencies – Chincholi and Kundagol – in north Karnataka on May 19. The bypolls in these two places become important because the results will have a bearing on the state politics of Karnataka, in which the Congress and the JD(S) have a coalition.

BJP leader Mallikarjun Balikai has taken exception to DK Shivakumar’s statement that the BJP should support the candidacy of Kusuma Shivalli, the Congress candidate for Kundagol by-election. While DK Shivakumar said that BJP should support her as they had spoken kind words at the time of CS Shivalli’s death, Mallikarjun hit back saying the same logic should apply to Mandya independent candidate Sumalatha as well
 

Karnataka BJP president Yeddyurappa has urged his party men to shun foreign jaunts and honeymoon plans in a bid to help BJP candidates win the upcoming by-elections in Chincholi and Kundagol. He also confidently stated that several bigwigs across party lines would end up losing in the Lok Sabha polls

 

On May 19, two Assembly seats in Karnataka (Chincholi and Kundagol) will go to by-polls, necessitated by Umesh Jadhav quitting the Congress and sitting Congress MLA CS Shivalli passing away. The BJP is betting its money on SI Chikkanagoudar from Kundalgod and either Ramachandra or Avinash (Umesh Jadhav’s brother and son respectively) for Chincholi
