Kerala Floods  

Five people have lost their lives due to the rains in Kerala in the last five days. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Tuesday and educational institutions in the two districts and in Malappuram remained closed today.

Red alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts for Monday (July 22). The Kannur district administration has announced a holiday for schools and other educational institutions.

In the heavy rains in Kerala, a total of seven fishermen went missing a few days ago. Four among them have returned and the other fishermen are yet to be found
 

Seven fishermen out of the eight who ventured into the sea from Vizhinjam and Neendakkara were reported missing. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned fishermen against venturing out to sea due to the presence of strong winds from the north-westerly direction reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
 

Earlier on Monday (July 15), Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and took stock of the situation in the state.
