Karnataka By Election  

It’s high time for the Congress to soul-search after its mortifying defeat in the Karnataka by-elections. Instead of blaming BJP, the Congress should provide an effective alternative. 

As of 2 pm, the BJP had won 12 seats in the Karnataka by-elections, winning six more seats than required for a simple majority. 

In the first hour of counting, out of 15 constituencies, BJP took the lead in at least 10 constituencies. While an independent candidate took the lead in Hosakote, the Congress and JD(S) were leading in two constituencies each.
 

 By-elections will be held in 15 of the 17 constituencies in Karnataka. The Election Commission has not announced the poll schedule for two Assembly segments - RR Nagar and Maski due to pending cases in the Karnataka High Court over the results of 2018 assembly elections.

Madhu Bangarappa fought against BJP's BY Raghavendra in the recently-held Lok Sabha by-election in Karnataka. Though BJP won the seat, Madhu Bangarappa of the JD(S) has been appreciated for narrowing the gap from 3.6 lakh to 52,148 votes.

Congress-JD(S) alliance won Ballari, Mandya, Ramanagara and Jamkhandi constituencies whereas BJP managed to win only Shivamogga.

During a press meet in Bengaluru, chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said if they had prepared well for the by-elections, JD(S) leader Madhu Bangarappa would have won from Shivamogga constituency in Karnataka.

While the Congress-JD(S) alliance is supposed to do well at these by-elections, he is expecting good results from the Lok Sabha general election, 2019, too.

VS Ugrappa said, 'I will shift to Ballari permanently and make visits to Bengaluru often. Since the people of Ballari have blessed me, it is my duty to be with them and listen to their problems and solve those problems'

The results of Karnataka by-elections have been announced. Out of five constituencies, JD(S) and Congress alliance has won two Lok Sabha seats and two Assembly constituencies while BJP has managed to claim one Lok Sabha seat. Here are the complete details. 

Anitha Kumaraswamy, the wife of Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has won Ramanagara constituency Assembly by-election. With this, she has become the first woman to win legislative election from Ramanagara.
 

By-elections were held for five constituencies in Karnataka - Lok Sabha by-election for Ballari, Shivamogga and Mandya whereas Assembly by-election for Jamakhandi and Ramanagara.

Taking a selfie or photo while casting vote and publishing it amounts to violation of rules set by the Election Commission and the person also can land into jail for three months.
