The Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh said that curfew has been put in place in Kishtwar town and some other areas of the district after the RSS leader's death. He said the situation is under control and investigations are underway.

Political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir, including Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have already said that any such move will bring violence and hostility to the region. Another leader, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in Kashmir, warned of 'disastrous and unimaginable repercussions'.

Terror heads of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind have released audio clips before the Lok Sabha election, appealing, as always, to Kashmiris that they should not vote. Hizbul commander Riyaz Naikoo and Ansar’s Zakir Musa have threatened to kill those who exercise their franchise.

This is not the only step which has been taken by the government to ensure safety for the security personnel. Forces have decided that a senior rank, not less than SP rank official, will lead the convoy and will be responsible for it. 

Reports said that the gunmen open fired upon Mohd Rafi Yatoo at his residence in Warpora around 5:30 pm.

At around 3.20 pm, the security forces, moving towards the militants' hideout, came under heavy fire. Following this, an encounter broke out between the security forces and militants.
 

The people whose security cover has been withdrawn include 22 separatist leaders. They have been considered 'undeserving' of state protection.

Two Indian Air Force personel were killed and two others were injured in a road accident which took place in south Kashmir's Awantipora area of Pulwama district.
