This is not the first time that encrypted chat platform Telegram has been used to communicate or propagate banned terror outfits. According to experts, after Twitter and Facebook launched a crackdown against the accounts operated by terror sympathisers, they switched to Telegram.

For the last 72 hours, the agency is working on cases in which a link with the main accused of Sri Lanka Sunday Easter church attack was found. NIA has arrested Abdul Rashid who was influenced by Zahran Hashim, key conspirator behind the Sri Lanka Churches attack.

Aboobacker Siddique had been watching videos and listening to speeches of Zahran Hashim, the mastermind behind the Easter attacks in Sri Lanka. On April 28, the NIA had conducted a raid at Siddique's house in Palakkad and Ahamed Arafat's house in Kasaragod.

The Islamic State (ISIS) took responsibility of the attacks in Sri Lanka, killed nearly 400 church-goers and other Christians on Easter. The ISIS has warned India multiple times too, claiming that the organisation is planning massive terror attacks.

Nine suicide bombers, believed to be the members of a local Islamist extremist group National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ), carried out a series of devastating blasts that tore through three churches and three luxury hotels.

The faction responsible for the Easter day terror attack is regarded as a local branch of the Islamic State, the terrorist group as known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS. On Tuesday, the ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Easter Sunday saw as many as eight blasts across Sri Lanka that took the lives of at least 321 people and injured 500 odd people. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks. The Sri Lankan government also exploring the angle that the attack could be in retaliation for the attack on Muslims offering Friday prayers at a mosque in New Zealand's Christchurch.

In August 2018, the NIA had arrested two alleged ISIS sympathisers from the city as part of its larger probe into Indian youngsters being radicalised to carry out terror strikes on behalf of the banned international outfit.

NIA has filed a supplementary chargesheet against accused Nashidul Hamzafar in Kerala's ISIS Kasaragod module case where youths were recruited from India for ISIS.
