This vital naval base is being expanded by the Navy as part of Project 'Seabird'. The renowned dry berth and townships are part of the naval base's development, which has been authorized to accommodate 32 ships and submarines.
 

Built by the Cochin Shipyard Limited, the 'Made in India' aircraft carrier's performance, including hull, main propulsion, power generation and distribution and auxiliary equipment, were tested during Vikrant's maiden sea voyage.

Chennai's Chandru, a fisherman-turned-scuba diver, on Sunday, found the same aircraft, which crashed 55 years ago in the sea. It was an Indian Navy Hawker Sea Hawk fighter jet that carried aboard INS Vikrant in the 1960s.
