The Union Home Ministry issued an FAQ addressing concerns about the CAA, clarifying that it does not target Muslims or seek to repatriate illegal immigrants based on religion. 

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Sunday (February 9, 2020) organised a rally at Azad Maidan in Mumbai demanding the ouster of illegal Bangladeshi and Pakistani immigrants from the State. Scores of workers of Raj Thackeray's party were seen raising slogans in favour of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). Some of them also played musical instruments to send out their message.

National Register of Citizens (NRC) seeks to identify illegal immigrants in the country. It was rolled out in Assam on the directions of the Supreme Court where 19 lakh people were excluded from the final list. Reacting to this, political strategist Prashant Kishor questioned the silence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Bhumidhar Burman, the revenue minister of Assam in 2009 had informed the state Assembly that two detention camps would be set up to house illegal immigrants. It is clear that the detention centres had come up in 2008-09 under the Tarun Gogoi government.

Lok Sabha on 10th December passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019. The Bill seeks to grant Indian Citizenship to persons belonging to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have migrated to India after facing persecution on grounds of religion in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, if they fulfill conditions for grant of citizenship. Introducing the Bill, Union Minister for Home Affairs, Amit Shah said that while no where does this bill target India's minority community, but illegal immigrants would not be allowed to stay in the country at any cost.

The Rohingyas are sitting ducks for terrorist groups and India has no option but to deport them. We are already facing a huge crisis thanks to the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and in such a scenario, we cannot afford to accommodate more, an Intelligence Bureau official told MyNation.

In Bengal, it has almost become a norm to safeguard illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. The problem is not new and parties such as the Congress, CPI(M) and now the TMC have all been protective of these elements as it had become their vote bank.
