Villagers in Bastar, Chattisgarh have now cast their vote in the first phase of general elections amid high security. Despite threats from naxals to boycott the election, villagers walked 10km to the polling stations.

 

Differently-abled voters were seen casting their votes in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections with as much enthusiasm as any other voters. While Mohammad Mustaqim, who was physically challenged from childhood was seen reaching the polling booth with assistance, another man on a wheelchair was seen exercising his voting rights in Shamli, Kairana constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju exercised his voting rights on Thursday. He is among the high profile candidates whose constituency witnessed voting in the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

Remember Bhatta from 2011? When the twin village of Bhatta and Parsaul erupted in fury over forcible land acquisition by the then Mayawati government, shots were fired, farmers were killed and the bedrock for Uttar Pradesh politics was formed.
