On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, India was not the only country to pay tributes to Bapu. Countries such as France, United Arab Emirates also paid tributes to the Father of India. Burj Khalifa in Dubai was lit up with photographs of Gandhi. 
                    

On Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared India open defecation free. He said that 99 percent of rural villages in India have declared themselves open defecation free and that 11 crore toilets were built for 60 crore people within 60 months.

Nepal unveiled its first statue of Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is at Sabarmati ashram when India celebrates Gandhi Jayanti. 

Along with Gandhi Jayanti, October 2 also marks the birth anniversary of the second prime minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. Political leaders including President Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and others paid tributes at Vijay Ghat.

 

Mani Bhavan is a place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed at while in Mumbai. Several events have been organised here in memory of the Father of the Nation.

On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the entire nation has joined hands with PM Modi's initiative of making India single-use plastic-free.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres praised Mahatma Gandhi and said that he pioneered non-violent movements that changed history. Gandhi’s birth anniversary is observed as International Day of Non-Violence.
