On February 27, the ministry of external affairs confirmed that India had lost a MiG-21 Bison aircraft during an air-to-air engagement with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jets following the non-military, pre-emptive air strikes in Balakot

The ministry of external affairs on Wednesday India had lost a MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft during an air-to-air engagement with Pakistan Air Force jets following the non-military, pre-emptive air strikes in Balakot. It also said that the pilot was “missing in action”.  

An F-16 aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was shot down by the Indian Air Force (IAF). An aircraft venturing into enemy territory is easily spotted by the radar systems and information is passed on to the missile system for retaliatory action
 

While India has confirmed that a pilot of MiG-21 Bison that was involved in thwarting an attack by PAF is missing and that the IAF has shot down a Pakistani F-16, the MEA is yet to ascertain the facts pertaining to pilot Abhinandan Varthaman
 

ANI reports say that Pakistan Air Force's F-16 that violated the Indian air space was shot down in Indian retaliatory fire 3 km within Pakistan territory in Lam valley, Nowshera sector.

The IAF is working on formulating a set of qualitative requirements against which it is likely to benchmark the bids submitted by six major aircraft manufacturers for supply of 110 fighter jets, instead of going through the tortuous process of field trials and evaluation, as was done in the previous such competition

'All six companies including Lockheed Martin F-16  and Boeing F-18  of the US, Gripen of Sweden, MiG 35 of Russia, European consortium Eurofighter and Rafale of France have responded,' Defence Ministry officials told MyNation
