Electoral Bonds  

A complaint against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other BJP leaders was filed by one Adarsh Iyer from the Janaadhikara Sangharsha Sanghatane, alleging that extortion was carried out through electoral bonds.
 

In compliance with directives from the Supreme Court of India, the State Bank of India, the country's largest public bank, has released a new dataset of electoral bonds detailing the parties and the bonds they encashed on Thursday.

The Enforcement Directorate began looking into the business that Santiago Martin, also referred to as "Lottery King," owned that acquired electoral bonds for more than Rs 1,350 crore in March 2022.

On 15 February 2024, the Supreme Court scrapped electoral bond schemes. It has also banned the purchase and sale of electoral bonds with immediate effect.

It was ordered by the bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi, along with Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna that the parties will have to show receipts of electoral bonds to the election commission.
