Challenges related to mobility, vision, and hearing are common among elderly individuals, potentially hindering the elderly individuals ability to participate in voting. However, numerous measures are in place to ensure that senior citizens can vote at polling stations in a manner that respects their dignity. In a bid to make the electoral process truly inclusive and participative, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced groundbreaking measures aimed at breaking barriers for voters above 85 years of age and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with a 40% benchmark disability.

Arpita Roy lost both her legs in a car accident. With the financial support of her brother, she underwent surgery abroad after a 12-day struggle to gather funds. Today, Arpita stands as a renowned yoga teacher and encourages other people to conquer over all the obstacles in life.

Gujarat’s Neha Bhatt runs a tea startup with the name ‘Ampu Tea Neha.’ In July 2021, Neha met with an accident. Her left side of the body was damaged and due to a delay in treatment, she had to undergo amputation, losing one of her legs. She sells almost 300 cups of tea daily and earns somewhere around Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh in a month.  

Indore’s Nikunj Sharma launched his tea business in Gorakhpur. Initially, he found it difficult to open a single outlet in the city but with the kindness of other people, he successfully launched his business. Today, Nikunj operates seven outlets in different cities and provides employment to people with disabilities.

Satyaprakash is an inspiration for the people who feel handicapped because of their disabilities. He is blind but owns a company with a turnover of Rs 3 lakh. He has successfully provided employment opportunities to farmers and village women.

 At a time when the entire globe is suffering the COVID-19 and the lockdown restrictions which is making human lives tough, it's time to re-define and re-think the idea of disability and the notions related to the same
 

Encouraged by ‘Accessible India Campaign’ launched in 2015 by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Indian Railways have been providing facilities/services to Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan). so as to enable them a barrier free transportation across the Railway network. To make its services more convenient and accessible to differently-abled passengers (Divyangjans) at railway stations, Indian Railways offers the following facilities.

On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said that the Centre is committed to keep working towards an "inclusive, accessible and equitable future for Divyang sisters and brothers"

The accused teacher is identified as Nishad V Muhammad of GHSS Neeleswaram School in Kozhikode, Kerala. Nishad, while confessing to the crime, said that he was only helping the students, who had learning disabilities.
