The coastal and delta districts of Tamil Nadu, including Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Trichy, Pudukottai, Dindigul and Puducherry have seen massive destruction after the storm ― Cyclone Gaja ― hit these areas.

Amid criticism of his government's handling of the situation, Tamil Nadu chief minister K Palaniswami, who announced Rs 1,000-crore package on Monday for immediate relief and rehabilitation work, urged the opposition to bury political differences and contribute towards relief activities.
