Cyclone Vayu  

The weather forecasting agency has also predicted that some isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha will be hit by a dust storm. 

As per weather reports, cyclone Vayu which was expected to hit and make landfall in Gujarat is now unlikely to do so. Vayu may skirt the Gujarat coast near Porbandar, close to Dwarka or Okha coast.

New Delhi: Cyclone Vayu is expected to hit India’s western coast soon and Gujarat has been put on high alert. Cyclone Vayu has been classified under category 2 cyclone by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The department also said that the Cyclone is very likely to cross the Gujarat coast between Veraval and Diu by early morning on June 13. IMD also said the Cyclone would hit the regions of Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat with winds blowing at speeds of 145 kmph to 170 kmph by Thursday morning. Gujarat is not immune to cyclones, but one of this strength and bearing a direct impact on the state has not happened since 1998. Here’s all you need to know about Cyclone Vayu.

Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagarh, Diu, Gir Somnath, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts are expected to be worst affected by cyclone Vayu

The cyclone is expected to hit the coast in Gujarat between Porbandar and Veraval early 13th June morning speeding up to 110-120 kmph and gusting up to 135-140 kmph. 

The Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast said that several parts of north Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, would experience heatwaves till Thursday and isolated parts of Telangana too would witness hot spell till Wednesday.

The monsoon was supposed to set in, in Karnataka on June 11, but due to low pressure in the Arabian sea, Cyclone Vayu is now expected to hit the coast within 24 to 48 hours
