Cyclone Fani  

The cyclonic storm Fani will reportedly cross the land between north coastal Odisha and extreme south coastal West Bengal on May 3 midnight and early hours of May 4 with a wind speed of 150 kmph.

Cyclone Fani is likely to hit the Odisha coast between Puri and Kendrapara by Friday, a senior official said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is yet to specify the exact location of landfall.

According to the IMD bulletin, Cyclone Fani is likely to move north-westwards till April 30 and later recurve north-eastwards gradually

The next six hours is crucial as the depression formed over the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal will intensify. Fishermen in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have been advised not to venture into the sea.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure region with the potential to morph into a tropical cyclone is brewing in the far east of the Bay of Bengal which might strike the coast of southern India in the next few days.
