The BJP also demanded that Central forces’ deployment be continued until the results were declared as the party apprehended “violence and reprisals”. The petition was given to the ECI by Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

My Nation was the first to break that the Election Commission decided last Tuesday to post paramilitary and central forces at each and every booth in Bengal for the remaining phases of the Lok Sabha elections. 

According to the new guidelines, the state police were relegated only to the middle of the three-cordon set up at polling booths. The outer and the inner would be manned by central forces. 

The decision was taken after sporadic incidents of violence and disruption marred the past phases in 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Bengal. The BJP too had complained to the EC in this regard on numerous occasions. 
 

BJP supporters were seen shouting slogans demanding Central paramilitary forces at the polling station in Jemua area of Asansol Parliamentary constituency. BJP supporters had stopped the polling process but even as central forces were reinstated, the BJP supporters continued shouting slogans.

Criticising the BJP for allegedly using the central forces, Mamata Banerjee said, "You cannot use the central forces. You did the same thing during the 2016 (assembly) elections in West Bengal. I have not forgotten it."

Bengal recorded a high voter turnout during the first two stages of polling on April 11 and 18. However, there have been numerous cases of violence already.
