The special cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi also observed a two-minute silence in the memory of Ananth Kumar.

Sadananda Gowda said that there were plans to procure new medicine from abroad for Ananth Kumar's treatment. But the BJP leader died before the medicine could reach him.

A six-time Member of Parliament,  Ananth Kumar had climbed the political ladder steadily from being an RSS worker to becoming a Union minister in his thirties.

The argument raised by Maran brothers is that only MPs are supposed to have a restriction on their phone connections, according to the Salaries and Allowance of Members of Parliament Act, the same is not applicable to a Cabinet minister.

Earlier, the Maharashtra court ordered Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and others, including two of his Cabinet colleagues Nakka Anand Babu and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao to appear before the court on or before September 21. 

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, Karnataka Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Krishna Byre Gowda told reporters here.
