 Built under 'Project Himank', the strategic road which passes through the Umling La Top and connects Chisumle and Demchok villages, is close to the Line of Actual Control.

The dream of Rs 4,000-crore Atal Tunnel aka Rohtang Tunnel, the world's longest motorable roadway at an altitude of over 3,000 metres was made a reality by a Malayali - Border Roads Organisation Chief Engineer KP Purushothaman.

“After hard work of over two months, our Jawans have finally cleared 474km-long highway from Manali-Sarchu highway. We have given a green signal to traffic from June 10,” 38 Border Task Force (38 BRTF) commander Col Uma Shankar said.
