Bengaluru's Yediyur ward has set a precedent by generating 250 kilowatt power from garbage. Out of 250 kilowatts, 150 KV will be used to light up 17 Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office buildings, 13 parks and street lights in a 3-kilometre radius. By generating power from garbage fuel, BBMP will save Rs 9 lakh monthly power bills

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has slapped a fine of Rs 50 crore on Karnataka government and has also directed BBMP to pay Rs 25 crore to Central Pollution Control Board CPCB for failure in protecting city lakes and keeping rajakaluves (stormwater drains) clear from encroachments. Namma Bengaluru Foundation has been pursuing the case.

Karnataka BJP spokesperson Prakash S alleged that the crew of the Tamil movie Imaikkaa Nodigal covered the Kempegowda emblem and the Palike board to convert it into a CBI office for their film. The municipal authority is not ruling out the possibility entirely.
