Women's rights activist Trupti Desai landed at the Kochi airport around 4 am on Tuesday to visit the Sabarimala temple. She has sought police protection for her visit. Earlier when Bindu Ammini tried to enter the shrine, she was attacked with a pepper spray.

Sabarimala shrine opened today for the 41-day annual pilgrimage season. Security has been heightened around the hill shrine. More than 10,000 cops will be deployed in four phases.

The two women, who recently entered the Sabarimala shrine on January 1, which led to massive protests in Kerala, had stayed at a private lodge in Kodagu's Virajpet.

Harivarasanam is known as the lullaby to Lord Ayyappa. The song was actually sung in the Sabarimala temple. Later, it was decided that the song should be recorded and played in the temple premises.

The protesters demanded that the BJP leader K Surendran be released and alleged that the police had arrested a devotee.

Lord Ayyappa temple will be opened on November 5 for the one-day festival of Chithira Attavisesham, an auspicious day in the Malayalam calendar.
