In what comes as a relief to telecom companies, the Union Cabinet has allowed the deferred payment of spectrum dues by 2 years. However, companies are expected to pay applicable interest in the deferred payments.

Vodafone Idea and Airtel will suitably increase the prices of its tariffs effective December 1, 2019, both companies said in separate statements.

Vodafone had posted a loss of whopping Rs 50,921.9 crore for the fiscal second quarter. Bharti Airtel too reported a loss to the tune of Rs 23,045 crore for the September quarter.

The Sensex fell by over 151 points and was mainly driven by Vedanta, Axis bank, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma and L&T. NSE gauge Nifty too fell about 51 points in opening deals.

Top gainers in the Sensex pack in early trade included Bajaj Finance, Reliance Industries, SBI, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, Tata Steel, Vedanta, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, HDFC and TCS, rising up to 2.10%.
 

Bharti Airtel on August 2 declared that it expects to shut down its entire 3G network across the country by March 2020. The process  has already started with Kolkata in the recent-concluded June quarter.

The result has been revealed by the data released by the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) on Tuesday.
