Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter on Wednesday to wish the country on its 72nd Independence Day. He tweeted, "Everything in life is hard-earned. Just like our independence. Among countless other things, there would have been no ‘Team India’ if not for the sacrifice of our brave freedom fighters. Let us not take that freedom for granted. #HappyIndependenceDay".

The tweet has garnered more than 5,800 retweets and 44,000 likes at the time of writing the article. Several fans shared pictures of the cricket legend with the Indian flag. While one Twitter user wrote, “Love you Sachin Pajji”, another person commented, “Proud to be an Indian...”

He emphasised that his government has been relentlessly working for the upliftment of the Dalits and the other backward sections of the society. Modi also announced several new schemes.
