Vijay Sethupathi has declined a role in Ram Charan's upcoming film 'RC 16', directed by Buchi Babu.
As the film market expands to include a wider audience, actors are presented with more opportunities. Big-budget superstar films are increasingly incorporating actors from other languages to cater to this growing market. Vijay Sethupathi is one such actor who enjoys significant popularity in Kollywood and beyond. However, he has recently declined a lucrative offer from the Telugu film industry.
Director Buchi Babu approached Sethupathi for a pivotal role in his upcoming film starring Ram Charan. Despite recognizing the film's scale and potential for success, Sethupathi declined the offer. He was considered for the role of Ram Charan's father in the film. This was the primary reason for his refusal, as he expressed concerns about being typecast in such roles. He conveyed his apprehensions to the filmmakers.
Buchi Babu made his directorial debut in 2021 with the film 'Uppena,' starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej. Vijay Sethupathi also played a significant role in the film as the father of the female lead, portrayed by Krithi Shetty. Coincidentally, he also essayed the role of a father in the recent blockbuster 'Mahaan.' Following this pattern, Sethupathi chose to decline the role in 'RC 16' (Ram Charan's 16th film) due to concerns about typecasting. Notably, 'Mahaan,' Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film, has grossed over ₹100 crores at the box office, marking his first solo hero film to achieve this milestone.
