New Delhi: Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh does not want to leave any stone unturned to ensure the smooth functioning of Kumbh Mela in 2019. That's why preparations for the fair have been underway for a year in Prayagraj.

To prevent any kind of trouble for the devotees attending the big gathering, Indian Railways are going to make judicious use of technology on a large scale to make pilgrims’ and tourists’ visit to the Kumbh Mela convenient.

In view of the number of people coming in Kumbh, several special trains will run from various parts of the country to Prayagraj. Apart from this, many cars equipped with special state-of-the-art facilities will also be available.

The general manager of North Central Railway, Rajiv Chaudhary, said that technology will be used extensively to improve pilgrims’ and tourists' experience in the Kumbh Mela, which will be held in Prayagraj in 2019.

He said, "Many MEMU trains will run from different places for Prayagraj. Apart from this, five special trains of AC-II class coaches will also run from Delhi to Prayagraj for NRIs. There will be facilities similar to the Hamsafar Express. Cleanliness will be a top priority during this time so we will use modern machines to clean the trains and railway platforms”.

In 2013, a stampede at a railway station in Allahabad killed at least 36 Hindu pilgrims during the Kumbh Mela. More than 80 people were injured in this accident.

Four big shelters with a capacity of about 10,000 are being built for passengers coming to Prayagraj. In these shelters, vending stalls, water booths, ticket counters, LCD TVs, CCTVs, as well as separate toilets for women and men are being made.
