New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently conducted Independent Drive Tests (IDTs) on highways and railway routes with Reliance Jio meeting the benchmark of less than or equal to 2% of Drop Call Rate while other telecom operators failed.
In its report, which was released on Thursday, TRAI said, through its appointed agency, had conducted IDTs on eight highways and three rail routes.
“TRAI conducted Independent Drive Tests (IDTs) through its appointed agency on eight highways and three rail routes. IDTs were conducted to assess the network quality provided by cellular mobile telephone service providers for voice service only,” TRAI said in a press release.

“The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were assessed for the networks of all telecom service providers operating in the region. KPIs for voice services were Coverage; Call Setup Success Rate(CSSR); Drop Call Rate; Block Call Rate, Handover Success Rate; Rx Quality (>95%: Measure of quality of voice),” it added.
The IDTs were conducted on eight highways - Asanol to Gaya, Bangalore to Murdeshwar, Dehradun to Nainital, Digha to Asanol, Gaya to Danapur, Mount Abu to Jodhpur, Raipur to Jagdalpur and Srinagar to Leh.
The rail routes of Allahabad to Gorakhpur, Delhi to Mumbai and Jabalpur to Singrauli were chosen for IDTs. On all these routes, Reliance Jio met the benchmark of Drop Call Rate.
According to the report, IDTs were conducted between August 16 and October 4.
Either 3G or 2G network of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and state-run BSNL failed to meet call drop benchmark on four highway routes and all the three railway routes.
Reliance Jio's name did not appear among companies that failed to meet call drop criteria on both the highway and rail routes.

Jabalpur to Singraul: Only RJio is meeting the QoS benchmark of Drop Call Rate of (less than or equal to) 2%. All the service providers have met the benchmark of (less than or equal to ) 95% of CSSR except Idea (2G), Vodafone (2G), Airtel (3G), Idea (3G), Tata (3G) and Vodafone (3G).
