Hyderabad/New Delhi: Will Sunday, the September 2, decide which way Telangana will go? If one goes by the actions on ground, the buzz in the political corridors and the preparedness of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the answer will be an emphatic yes. There is a huge possibility of not only of an early election in the State but also of the State Assembly dissolution.

In the past few days and weeks, the entire State is witnessing a ‘transfer raj’.  At least 13 collectors, 9 IPS officers and 29 deputy collectors have been transferred. Particularly, the IPS officers posted in politically sensitive south zone of Hyderabad have been changed as well.

And all this is happening in the run up to the mega rally of the ruling TRS, which is touted to be the mother of all rallies. What the TRS is calling the Pragati Nivedana Sabha will see the Chief Minister and his party presenting its report card to the people. The rally today is slated to be attended by at least 10 lakh people, if not more. The entire party infrastructure is bringing in as many supporters as possible to the venue as a grand show of strength.

What makes the case for an early election even more believable is the fact that K Chandrasekhar Rao is presiding over a Cabinet meeting today, which is otherwise an off day for government services. It is widely believed the chief minister has done so to get the Cabinet nod before announcing it from the huge stage erected on the outskirts of Hyderabad that he is battle-ready and that he wants to go for an early election.

Those privy to the functioning of the State government maintain that his policies have started yielding results. A new policy that will enable the local people to have the right over 95% of government jobs in the State is already a head turner. His sops for the farmers have kept the peasants in good humour, too. Many within the party say Rao has been doing this, keeping the early election as a goal and taking his opposition by surprise.
