Bhopal: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) successfully spotted over 96 individuals who were littering the city’s streets and fined them.

The BMC team followed Commissioner Avinash Lawani’s directions and went ahead with imposing fines on those guilty of throwing trash on the roads. The officials were able to collect a total sum of Rs 24,400 as fine from erring individuals.

Keeping in mind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachchata Hi Seva” campaign, the BMC commissioner went on a cleanliness inspection drive from September 15. The drive will be on till October 2.

Lawania visited residences after he was informed by the locals about door-to-door collection of garbage undertaken by the sanitation workers.

 Further, the commissioner visited students from a school and found out if the children were aware of garbage collection and basic cleanliness work. The commissioner carried out this drive with strict and rigid instructions, as he was seen directing the assistant health officer to slam Rs 5,000 fine on a liquor shop.

 This was his attempt to warn local shopkeepers to keep their premises clean. He ended his drive temporarily by giving permission to BMC officials to fine anyone in sight who was going against the cleanliness protocol.
