Sri Lankan Navy arrests nine Tamil Nadu fishermen

Rameshwaram: Sri Lankan Navy personnel on Monday has arrested nine Tamil Nadu fishermen and seized their two vessels charging them of breaching into the territorial waters of the island nation and for illegally fishing in the Sri Lankan waters.
As per sources, the nine fishermen were on the high seas northwest of Delft island when the personnel on a fast gun boat attached to the northern naval command of Sri Lankan Navy arrested them.
Two ‘dhows’ used by the fishermen were also taken into custody by the navy. The arrested fishermen were taken to the naval station at Uttara and later handed over to the office of the fisheries inspector in Jaffna.
Recently on February 23, the Sri Lankan Navy arrested 13 fishermen from Pamban in Rameshwaram. The Sri Lankan naval craft attached to the north-central naval command apprehended the fishermen and their trawler.
