A Senior police official told My Nation that a joint team of the Army and SOG of J&K Police launched the massive cordon-and-search operation at Safanagri, following intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the area
Shopian: Security forces on Tuesday have managed to eliminated two local terrorists in Safanagri area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district during a brief encounter at around 2.30 in the morning.
A Senior police official told My Nation that a joint team of the Army and SOG of J&K Police launched the massive cordon-and-search operation at Safanagri, following intelligence inputs about the presence of some terrorists in the area.
The forces intensified the search operation and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, following which the terrorists opened fire at the forces triggering encounter in the area.
The police officer confirmed the killing of the two terrorists and according to reports, both of them were linked to the separatist militant organization Hizbul Mujahideen.
However, sources told My Nation that both the deceased are locals, who have been identified as Amir from Awaneera and Idress from Safanagri. These two were also responsible for radicalising the local youth of that area.
