Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has yet again courted controversy with his anti-BJP statements. The former Union minister, on Wednesday, said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in 2019, it will create a “Hindu Pakistan”.

BJP has lashed out at Tharoor with the party’s spokesperson Sambit Patra demanding an apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

As per ANI news agency, Tharoor, while addressing a gathering in Kerala, said, "If they (BJP) win a repeat in the Lok Sabha, our democratic Constitution as we understand it will not survive as they will have all the elements they need to tear apart the Constitution of India and write a new one."

"That new one (Constitution) will be the one which will enshrine principles of Hindu Rashtra, that'll remove equality for minorities, that will create a Hindu Pakistan and that isn't what Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad and great heroes of freedom struggle fought for," the Thiruvananthapuram MP further stated.

Patra took to Twitter to hit out at Congress. He wrote, "Shameless @INCIndia doesn’t lose any opportunity to demean India & defame the Hindus! From “Hindu terrorists” to “Hindu-Pakistan” the Pak appeasing policies of Cong are unparalleled! (sic)"

BJP leader Shobha Karandlaje too took to Twitter to attack the Congress party over Tharoor’s comments.

She wrote, "Hindu Terror Saffron Terrorism Bhagwa Aatankwad now Hindu Pakistan. irony is that, those who created one big Muslim Pakistan in 1947 &thousands of mini Pakistan within India are afraid of Hindu Pakistan. That is why I call CONgress a threat to India (sic)."

Tharoor did not only make “Hindu Pakistan” comment at the gathering but also slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that his speeches are for political purposes. Tharoor’s remark came after Modi launched an attack on Congress while addressing a farmers’ rally in Punjab.
