New Delhi: RSS-affiliated nationalist Muslim organisation, Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), has brought together several gurus of Hinduism and Muslim ulema a day before Rakshabandhan in Delhi to spread the message of communal harmony.

The congregation, to be held in the Kedar Nath Sahani Hall in Delhi, would be chaired by RSS functionary and MRM’s patron Indresh Kumar.

MRM convenor Mohammad Afzal told MyNation that holy figures from several religions were coming together to extend a message of harmony on Rakshabandhan, a festival that is a celebration of closeness and bonding between brothers and sisters.

“We have organised an all-religion meet here in Delhi and our patron Indresh Kumar will also be present. All the gurus and ulema who have been invited will together mark Rakshabandhan as a celebration of bonding, which is an integral part of the Indian culture,” Afzal said.

Moreover, the Muslim organisation would also be organising on August 27 an event in Delhi to pay tribute to former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “We shall be paying homage to the departed soul and the great son of soil Atalji at NDMC Convention Centre,” Afzal told MyNation.

In previous years too, the MRM commemorated Rakshabandhan in novel ways. Starting in 2013, when the organisation had convened a huge gathering of over 2,500 Muslim and Hindu men and women on Rakshabandhan in Jaipur for communal harmony and brotherhood, last year the Muslim body had organised a nationwide ‘rakhi campaign’ in which Muslim girls tied rakhi to Hindu boys and Hindu girls to Muslim boys. The campaign ran in 12 States.
