New Delhi: Diplomatic sources on Monday said that the Kartarpur Corridor opening might delay given the tarnished relation between India and Pakistan after the Pulwama massacre. 

According to reports, the meeting between delegates to discuss the development regarding the Kartarpur Corridor, which was supposed to take place on March 14, might get halted. 

Relationships between the two neighbours went downhill after a Pakistan-backed Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber rammed an SUV car with 350 kg of explosives into a security convoy of 78 vehicles carrying over 2,500 personnel, killing at least 40 jawans. Most of them were returning to duty after spending their holidays in their respective destinations.

The attack jolted India and is being considered the worst terror attack since the Uri attack in 2016. Since then the Centre, as well as the public, are in no mood to relent this time. 

In 1999,  a proposal was raised to construct a fenced corridor between the Indian side and the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur for free access to the shrine for devotees without the requirement of a passport or a visa. Pakistan agreed to the proposal in 2000 but the project never saw the light of the day, until 2018 when the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone. 

Located in Pakistani Punjab’s Narowal district, the gurdwara is built on the historic site where Guru Nanak, founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus, settled and assembled a Sikh community after his missionary travels. The gurdwara is built where Guru Nanak is said to have died.
