In a bizarre turn of events, Aijaz Arshad Kazmi, a self-styled spokesperson for Indian Muslims slapped Farah Faiz inside a television studio in Gautam Budhh Nagar (Noida) during a live debate. Farah is an advocate who has been fighting against the patriarchal practice of triple talaq in India. The video of the attack has since gone viral. Though it is hardly audible where Faiz is seen raising her hand in protest followed by two violent slaps by Kazmi.

“He (Kazmi) used obnoxious words for me on air. I protested it and raised my hand. Soon he started getting violent. He also threw glasses of water that were kept on the table for us. Yaseer (another panellist) grabbed it. He (Kazmi) kept trying to beat me even after that”, says the advocate who has been fighting a longstanding legal battle against triple talaq and rally Muslim women against the practice.

In fact sources within the TV, the studio has also confirmed to MyNation that indeed Kazmi used derogatory words for Farah Faiz, in front of other panellists.

For now, a written police complaint has been filed by Faiz at Sector 20 Police Station in Noida. “I have done the MLC from the district hospital in Noida and submitted my complaint. This (what happened to me) is not done”, says a visibly shocked Farah.

This is not the first time thought that she has been a victim of verbal abuse in public for her stand on triple talaq. Maulana Sajid, President of India Imam Association allegedly made some personal remarks against her inside a TV studio on 17th May this year. She later in a complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, she narrated her tale of the ordeal.

MyNation repeatedly tried to contact Kazmi but his phone was unreachable.
