About 30 fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the fire at the building that houses over 400 business establishments.
Kolkata: Days after Kolkata witnessed the horrific incident of Majerhat Flyover collapse that killed one, the city woke up to another news of tragedy, on Sunday. A massive fire broke out in a multi-storey building early Sunday in the central part of the city's congested Bagree Market. The place is close to the Canning Street in the heart of Kolkata.
"
At least 30 fire tenders were pressed into action to douse the fire, which broke out at 2.45 AM. "As the area is very congested, we are finding it difficult to work. We are using hydraulic ladder and gas cutters to cut through the grills of the gates and small windows to enter the building," a senior official said.
Though no casualty has been reported so far, it took at least seven hours for the fire department to bring the fire under control.
