Thiruvananthapuram: In a tragic incident, 59 students and a teacher were reportedly injured in an explosion from a science experiment in Holy Family High School in Kerala’s Angamaly on Saturday. The incident occurred after a working model of a volcano exploded.

The workshop was conducted in the grounds near the back gate and the cycle shed of the school. As per reports, the volcano was made by covering a half feet long PVC pipe filled with an explosive substance with layers of mud.

The police said that the explosive substance was used for a longer time to display the eruption effect of the volcano and a tile was used to sustain the fire. An eyewitness told that pieces of tiles and stones hit the students who were standing around the model after the explosion.

According to reports, two students were admitted into a private hospital in the town while the remaining students suffered minor injuries. A case has been registered against the school for negligent handling of explosive substances.
