Veerappa Moily and HD Kumaraswamy criticised each other during 2014 election as HD Kumaraswamy contested against him in Chikkaballapur then. In 2019, will JDS negotiate with its allied partner Congress and demand Moily's seat?
The recent development of Karnataka MP M Veerappa Moily extending his complete support for Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy for the entire five-year has raised many questions among the political circles.
This attempt is said to be a move by Veerappa Moily to seek JDS' support to grab the Rajya Sabha MP seat at least, keeping in mind JDS' demand to the Congress to offer Chikkaballapur (Moily's current constituency) seat during 2019 polls.
Veerappa Moily and HD Kumaraswamy criticised each other during 2014 election as HD Kumaraswamy contested against him in Chikkaballapur then. While the Congress camp maintain that it is the Moily's stature that got him re-elected as MP in 2014, JDS leaders say, Kumaraswamy's decision to contest against Moily, helped Congress beat BJP, which was in an advantageous position then.
SB Basha, Bengaluru Rural Wakf Board Chairman and Moily follower, said that Moily's statement to support to HDK for the entire term has nothing to do with Moily sacrificing his seat. "Moily will only contest from Chikkaballapur as MP in the upcoming Lok Sabha election," he said.
Ridiculing the Congress-JDS combine, BJP said history has it that JDS always ditches its partners.
BJP is of the opinion that Moily is doubtful about his career in politics and hence is airing such comments to appease JDS leaders. "This government will also collapse in one year. DK Shivakumar, G Parameshwar are at the mercy of the JDS party. And now, Moily is added to that list. In case the coalition government continues its full term, BJP will emerge stronger and Congress will furthered be reduced," said S Prakash, Karnataka BJP Spokesperson.
