Kargil Vijay Diwas is the day to commemorate the Indian Army’s victory over Pakistan in Kargil war in 1999. It was named after the success of Operation Vijay, where Indian soldiers battled hard for over 60 days to reclaim the outposts captured by intruders from Pakistan. War with the neighbouring country ended on 26 July and India was successful in maintaining the status quo after getting back all the posts from the intruders. Every year, on 26 July, the sacrifices of the war heroes in Kargil are remembered.
